Last Friday, your Rocks hosted the Fishers Tigers earning a 14-7 victory and extending their record to 6-2 (5-1 HCC). The Rocks started on offense for this one, but quickly went three-and-out. Westfield’s defense stepped up on the opening Tiger drive with Alex Aramboles punching out the football and Ja’Deon Smith recovering the fumble. The Rocks couldn’t get anything going with the extra possession but were able to execute a solid quick punt, pinning Fishers. The teams traded a few more punts before Westfield made it all the way down to the one yard line before getting stopped by the surprisingly stingy Tiger defense, coming away empty. The scoreless first quarter flipped over to the second with another Rock D stop, and the Tigers having to execute a backed up punt. Unfortunately, Westfield would cough it up on their next drive, and the Tigers looked to be in business this time with a short field. Logan Loring came up with a big interception on a deep shot at the two yard line, however, and then Westfield’s offense provided just enough space to safely punt the ball away and end the scoring threat. Fishers then pushed into Westfield territory again, and this time it was Cato June with an interception to end the threat and take the ball back for the Shamrocks. Neither team could get much going for the remainder of the half, with Aramboles producing a pair of big sacks along the way. The half would end with no score from either team. Westfield kicked the ball away to start the second half, and the Rock D went back to work. The Tigers made it all the way to the one yard line before the Rocks made a fourth down stop, turning the ball back to the offense. Unfortunately, Westfield coughed it up for a second time at their one 5 yard line. The Tigers were able to finally capitalize on the extremely short field and took a 7-0 lead. Westfield tried to answer, but an errant throw was intercepted by Fishers. Isaac Weingart and Chase Crabtree would add additional sacks to the growing collection forcing Fishers to punt the ball yet again. The Tigers would take their one score lead into the fourth quarter. The Shamrock offense then put together a drive to start the fourth where Cooper Melvin was able to find Andrew Noble for a 36 yard finger tip catch and score. A missed extra point left Fishers in the lead by one. It was Westfield’s defense who took the lead back when Weingart intercepted a tipped ball and returned it for a touchdown. The Rocks went for two and Tyson Gilbert took a pitch from Aiden Grabowski, then threw it back to a wide-open Grabowski for the conversion. With a 7 point lead, the Rocks needed to stop the Tiger answer and hold on for the victory. Fished would push down into Shamrock territory, but the Rock D came up big on a four down hold, turning it back over to the offense. Westfield was then able to gain a big first down and kneel it out to secure the 14-7 win. Next Friday, your Rocks will travel to Franklin Central to face the Flashes. They are coming off of a close three point loss to Hamilton Southeastern, dropping their record to 4-4 (2-4 HCC). Westfield will need help from the Royals to beat Brownsburg if they are to get a share of the HCC crown, but a victory over the Flashes in this final week of regular season play secures sole possession of second place in the conference. Kickoff is scheduled for 7pm.
