Last Friday, your Rocks traveled to Avon to face the Orioles, earning a conference victory. The Rocks started on defense, and promptly held through four downs to stop the Oriole attack just shy of midfield. This set up the offense with great field position, and the Rocks capitalized when Cooper Melvin found Caiden Snow for a touchdown (Diego Herrera kick). Avon answered on their next drive with a long run, tying things back up at 7. Andrew Noble pulled down a spectacular catch on the next Shamrock drive, setting up a 1 yard Deacon King punch-in (Herrera kick). Westfield came up with the stop on the next Avon possession, and the 14-7 lead held to end the first. The Rocks looked to be headed for a score again on their drive, but stalled and had to settle for a Herrera field goal to extend the lead. The teams exchanged a pair of punts before Avon broke loose for another score, bringing them within 3. Elliot Clevenger went to work on the next drive, stringing together some strong runs that Melvin punched in for the score (Herrera kick). The Rocks would take a 24-14 lead into the break. Westfield received the ball to start the second half, but didn’t get much going on their first possession. Alex Aramboles produced a big fourth down sack on the first Oriole drive of the half, halting any potential shift of momentum. Aiden Grabowski then wasted no time in breaking free for a 63 yard score (Herrera kick) for the Rocks. Wade Washo intercepted Avon on their next drive, taking the ball back for Westfield, but the offense was unable to capitalize on the possession. The fourth quarter started with a 31-14 Shamrock lead, but Avon scored early in the period to trim things to 10. The Rocks went for it on fourth down on their next possession, but were unable to convert. With the Orioles threatening to cut into the lead further, Reid Dikos came up with a big interception to take the ball back for Westfield. The Shamrock offense then put together a long, clock-eating drive that looked to stall out as they moved past midfield. Special Teams executed a quick punt that caught the Orioles by surprise, ricocheting off an Avon player, and leading to a Shamrock recovery. With the short field, Grabowski punched in another score to extend the lead (Herrera kick). Avon attempted to move quickly as time ran out, but Cato June came up with the third Shamrock interception of the night, and the Rocks were able to ice it from there. 38-21 was the final. Next Friday, your Rocks will host the Fishers Tigers. The Tigers are 5-2 (4-1 HCC) coming off of a 1 point overtime victory against Franklin Central. Kickoff is scheduled for 7pm.
