Last Friday, your Rocks hosted the Zionsville Eagles for the start of the rivalry portion of the conference schedule. They earned a 42-7 victory and retained the Shining Star trophy. The Rocks started on defense and stalled a promising Eagle drive to force the first punt of the night. Evan Crow started the scoring for the Shamrocks when he broke loose for a 59 yard touchdown run (Diego Herrera kick). The Eagles started chipping away on offense again and were moving across midfield when the first quarter expired with the Rocks up 7-0. The Rock D stiffened and forced another punt. After the kick landed in the end zone for a touchback, the Shamrock offense marched 80 yards down the field for their second score of the night. Baylor Conner punched it in from the 3 to extend the lead (Herrera kick). The Eagles were able to answer on the next drive when the Rocks punched the ball out, but it bounced up into Zionsville hands and they ran it in to trim the lead to 7. Westfield then put together a scoring drive that ate the rest of the half. Cooper Melvin found Andrew Noble to cap off the drive with 6 seconds left (Herrera kick). Zionsville knelt after the ensuing kickoff, and the Rocks took a 21-7 lead into the half. Westfield received the ball to start the second, and they capitalized on the opportunity to pad the lead when Melvin darted around the end for a 66 yard score (Herrera kick). Zionsville ripped off a couple of long runs, but then stalled and the Rock D held through four downs to take the ball back. A big passing play to Henry Everts put the Rocks deep into Zionsville territory, and then Conner cashed for the score (Herrera kick). The Eagles missed a long field goal on their next drive, and the Rocks took a 35-7 lead into the fourth quarter. Westfield would punt the ball for the first time, but then Joey Miles took it right back with an interception. Shon Edmund ran the ball in for the final score of the night for the Rocks (Herrera kick). The Rocks recovered a fumble on the following kickoff to take the ball back for a second time and, with the lead extended to 35 points, a running clock accelerated the remaining time. 42-7 Rocks would stand as the final score. Next week, your Rocks will make the short trip to Noblesville to face the Millers with the Midland Rail trophy on the line. Noblesville stands at 2-1 coming off a 2 point win over Fishers. Kickoff is scheduled for 7pm.
